Now, get PF dues in 1 week

Come November and you would see your provident fund claims getting settled within a week, from 30 days today.
Amid growing concerns over non-settlement of provident fund claims leading to an unprecedented increase in pendencies of such cases, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has finalised a roadmap, which promises to clear claims in a short span of seven days.
However, even though the timeline for claims settlement is one month, there have been instances where subscribers have faced delays of more than six months.
EPFO officials attribute these delays to insufficient details from employers.
“I do not deny that there may be such cases but the numbers are limited,” Central Provident Fund Commissioner K Chandramouli told Hindustan Times.
Chandramouli has ordered speedy computerisation of all the 118 PF offices across the country by November 2009 to ensure that settlement of provident fund related claims is done within a week.
“We have already started the pilot computerisation project at Karnal in Haryana and will cover the remaining locations in the next six months,” he said.
The other reason for delays is corruption. “Instances have come to our notice where some private sector employers tried to manually alter the final settlement amount details of their employee,” another official said.
“Computerisation will eliminate all such discrepancies as claims will get settled in a more transparent and responsive manner,” Chandramouli said. “No one will be able to change the order of claims to be settled.”
